Majority of Danes Support Sending Peacekeepers to Ukraine, Poll Shows

Voters in Denmark, one of Ukraine’s largest military donors, support the idea of sending peacekeepers to the country once a ceasefire is reached, according to a opinion poll published by Ritzau on February 21.
The survey found that 53% of respondents favored Denmark’s participation in a future peacekeeping mission. Meanwhile, 15% opposed the idea, and 32% remained undecided or had no opinion.
The poll also revealed strong backing for Ukraine’s integration into Western alliances, with 66% supporting EU membership and 68% favoring NATO accession.
Conducted by Voxmeter for Ritzau between February 18 and 20, the poll gathered responses from 1,021 participants, though no margin of error was provided.
Denmark has contributed 53.7 billion kroner ($7.55 billion) in military aid to Ukraine since Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022. While Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has increased domestic defense investments, she said that discussions on peacekeepers are premature, though she remains open to UK-led plans.
On February 20, Frederiksen met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to reaffirm Denmark’s commitment to supporting Ukraine.
Previously, the Dutch House of Representatives has passed a resolution supporting the possible deployment of peacekeeping forces to Ukraine if a ceasefire agreement with Russia is reached, Dutch broadcaster NOS reported on February 19.
