Russia Launched Massive Missile Attack on Ukraine’s Infrastructure, Causing Power and Water Outages
On August 26, at 8 a.m. Russia launched a massive missile assault across all Ukrainian cities, targeting energy and civilian infrastructure, killing at least three people.
The assault involved missiles launched from 11 Tu-95MS and 6 Tu-22M3M aircraft, and 80 “Geran” drones. In addition, Iskander complexes were also deployed.
Missiles struck the Kharkiv, Sumy, Kirovohrad, Vinnytsia, Zaporizhzhia, Khmelnytskyi, Dnipropetrovsk, and Kyiv regions, including the capital Kyiv. The second missile wave targeted Western regions of Ukraine. Additional strikes have been reported in Odesa, Chernihiv, and Lutsk.
Power outages have been reported in the areas surrounding Kyiv. Vitali Klitschko, the mayor of Kyiv, stated that on the right bank of the capital, water supplies have been disrupted due to power cuts.
In Lutsk, significant damage has been inflicted on residential buildings due to Russia’s attack, with one civilian killed so far.
The infrastructure in Lutsk has also been heavily damaged. Some communities are facing water supply issues as efforts continue to preserve energy and critical infrastructure.
In Kyiv, water supplies have been cut off in the Shevchenkivskyi, Svyatoshynskyi, Solomianskyi, and Holosiivskyi districts. Zhytomyr is also without water. The outages are a result of a blackout caused by a Russian missile attack.
Kyiv City Military Administration announced the deployment of Points of Invincibility (POIs) throughout the city, following guidelines from Ukrenergo. This action is in response to ongoing power restoration efforts.
“Residents are urged to remain calm and seek shelter during air raid sirens. POIs will provide essential services, including heating, lighting, and communication facilities, to those affected by the power outages.”
The Transcarpathian 650th Separate Anti-Aircraft Machine Gun Battalion of the Armed Forces of Ukraine released a video showing a successful shooting down of a cruise missile on the border with the Lviv region. The missile was heading towards Transcarpathia.
Poland has elevated its aviation readiness in response to a significant increase in Russian missile attacks targeting western Ukrainian regions. According to the Polish military, they have been monitoring intense Russian strikes on various targets since the early hours of the morning.
