The Ukrainian documentary film 2000 Meters to Andriivka by Mstyslav Chernov has been nominated for the prestigious independent film prize, the Gotham Award, in the Best Documentary Feature category.

The nomination was announced on the award's official page on October 28, placing 2000 Meters to Andriivka among five films competing for the prize.

The other nominated documentaries are BLKNWS: Terms and Conditions, The Perfect Neighbor, Put Your Soul on Your Hand and Walk, and My Undesirable Friends. Part 1—The Last Air in Moscow. The latter film explores the fate of Russian independent journalists who were forced to emigrate after Russia's full-scale invasion.

Chernov’s nominated film recounts the mission of a single Ukrainian platoon tasked with crossing a heavily fortified kilometer of forest to liberate a strategically vital village from Russian occupation. The documentary follows a journalist accompanying the soldiers, showing how their deep push into their devastated homeland leads them to a stark realization: this war may never truly end.

Filming for the project started in September 2023, with the entire production spanning nearly a year and a half. Like the director’s previous acclaimed work, 2000 Meters to Andriivka is a joint effort between Frontline and the Associated Press, focused on documenting Russia’s war against Ukraine.

Earlier, 2,000 Meters to Andriivka was chosen by the Ukrainian Oscar Committee to represent Ukraine for the 98th Academy Awards in the Best International Feature Film category.
