Mystery Drones Fly Over Washington Base Where Rubio and Hegseth Reside
Unidentified drones have been spotted flying over Fort McNair, a US military installation in Washington, D.C., where several senior American officials reside, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, The Washington Post reported on March 18.
US authorities have not yet determined who is behind the drone activity.

The sightings come at a time of heightened security concerns. The United States has raised alert levels at diplomatic missions worldwide and increased force protection measures at several domestic bases amid potential threats.
Earlier this week, Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in New Jersey and MacDill Air Force Base in Florida elevated their security posture to “Charlie” level—an indication that intelligence suggests a possible threat or attack. The only higher level, “Delta,” is reserved for situations where an attack is imminent or already underway.
According to The Washington Post, US officials are increasingly concerned that potential retaliation by Iran could extend to American personnel and facilities.
The drone activity over Fort McNair was taken seriously enough that officials reportedly considered relocating high-ranking personnel to other locations.
However, no such move has been carried out so far. Multiple outlets had previously reported the presence of senior officials at the base in October.
Fort McNair is home to the National Defense University and houses some of the Pentagon’s top military leadership. While it has not traditionally been used to accommodate political figures, a growing number of officials from the Trump administration have reportedly moved to military installations in the area, citing security concerns.
Located near Capitol Hill and the White House, the base occupies a highly sensitive position in Washington—but unlike some other facilities in the region, it does not have the same level of perimeter security.
Earlier, Israel announced it had killed Iranian Intelligence Minister Esmaeil Khatib in a targeted overnight airstrike in Tehran.
