No Objection to Ukraine’s Possible Use of Leopard Tanks in Russia, Says Germany
Markus Faber, Chairman of the Defence Committee and a member of Germany’s Free Democratic Party (FDP), has expressed his approval of Ukraine’s potential use of German-supplied weapons, such as the Leopard 2 main battle tank, to advance into Russian territory.
Faber stated that once these weapons are transferred to Ukraine, they become Ukrainian assets. “When transferred to Ukraine, these are Ukrainian weapons. This applies to any material, including the Leopard 2,” he told the editorial board. He emphasized that, following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the territories of both countries have become part of the war zone, and the use of weapons is governed by international law.
According to the Bild, citing the Russian Defense Ministry, at least three German Marder armored personnel carriers were involved in the operation.
Earlier, the European Commission said Ukraine has the right to defend itself by attacking targets in Russia following an incursion in the border oblast of Kursk.
Additionally, the US has emphazed that Ukraine has not violated US regulations concerning the use of American-supplied weapons within Russian territory.
On August 7, the Governor of Kursk Region, Alexey Smirnov, declared a state of emergency in the whole region due to the ongoing situation in the area.
