North Korea Calls Russia’s Invasion of Ukraine a “Holy War“
The Foreign Minister of DPRK described Russia's actions in Ukraine as a "holy war," a statement featured in a video released on the YouTube channel of the Russian Foreign Ministry, on November 1.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and North Korean Foreign Minister Choe Son-hui are currently in talks in Moscow. During their meeting, both ministers declared that relations between their countries have reached a new level.
"From the very beginning of the special military operation, the respected Kim Jong Un gave instructions that we do not look back at anyone, to consistently and powerfully provide assistance to the Russian army and the Russian people in their holy war," said Choe Son-hui during talks with Lavrov.
Choe Son-hui expressed confidence that "the Russian army and people will achieve victory in their sacred struggle to protect the sovereign rights and security interests of their state," and North Korea "will firmly stand with Russian comrades until the victorious day."
On October 14, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy cited intelligence indicating North Korea’s de facto involvement in the ongoing war after reports had emerged indicating that more than 20 soldiers were killed near Donetsk due to a missile strike on October 3, including six North Korean officers.
