The US and NATO should consider the possibility of "directly attacking North Korean troops" if they join the fight on Russia’s side in Ukraine.

This was stated by US Congressman Mike Turner, chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, reports Voice of America.

According to Turner, the participation of North Korean forces in the war against Ukraine should be a red line for the US and NATO, as Russia should not be allowed to “open the season” for impunity in striking Ukraine and inviting foreign troops to do so.

“I believe that the United States and NATO allies should seriously discuss and consider the possibility of directly attacking North Korean troops if they are in Ukraine and attacking it,” he said.

“North Korean troops have no place in Europe, and they should not be attacking a European country. I believe it is in the interest of NATO and the United States as a NATO member to ensure that Asian, North Korean communist troops do not march into a European country and attack it,” the congressman noted.

“The United States currently adheres to a policy under which Ukraine cannot use weapons provided by NATO countries and the US to attack legitimate military targets in Russia. For example, if Russia uses a military system to attack Ukraine from Russian territory, Ukraine cannot respond by attacking that system with US or local weapons.”

“This is a legitimate military target that they should be able to respond to. Currently, the administration considers this a provocation. In fact, the first strike by Russia should have been considered a provocation. They should be able to defend themselves,” Turner said.

Previously, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken announced the allocation of a new package of military aid to Ukraine in the coming days amid reports of Russia's involvement North Korean military in its war against Ukraine. Blinken stated during the briefing that 8,000 North Korean troops have been deployed to Russia’s Kursk region.
