North Korea Is Gaining Valuable Combat Experience in Fighting Alongside Russia Against Ukraine
Dorothy Camille Shea, the Deputy US Ambassador to the UN, has warned that North Korea’s involvement in the war against Ukraine provides its forces with valuable combat experience, significantly boosting their readiness for potential military actions against neighboring countries, Reuters reports.
“The DPRK is significantly benefiting from receiving Russian military equipment, technology and experience, rendering it more capable of waging war against its neighbors,” Shea told the United Nations Security Council on January 8.
Over 12,000 North Korean troops are currently stationed in Russia, and last month they began engaging Ukrainian forces in the Kursk region, Shea informed the United Nations Security Council.
“In turn, the DPRK will likely be eager to leverage these improvements to promote weapons sales and military training contracts globally,” the official added.
Previously, on January 7, North Korea’s General Bureau of Missile Development announced the successful test launch of a new hypersonic ballistic missile.
On December 14, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that Russia had deployed North Korean soldiers for the first time to attack Ukrainian positions in Russia’s Kursk region.
