Norway Deploys NASAMS and F-35s to Protect Ukraine Aid Hub in Poland
Norway has deployed the NASAMS air defense systems in Poland to protect the logistics hub for international military aid to Ukraine in Rzeszów. The General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces announced this on Thursday, December 19.
According to the Polish military, multirole F-35 fighter jets have also been deployed to bolster the defense of the Polish airspace.
Along with the combat aircraft and NASAMS air defense systems, 100 Norwegian military personnel will be stationed in Rzeszów. It is reported that the NATO-led mission is expected to last until Easter.
The Polish airport "Rzeszów-Jasionka" is located less than 100 kilometers from the Ukrainian border. Since Russia's full-scale invasion in February 2022, it has also become a key stopover point for foreign officials visiting Ukraine. The airport serves as the key transit hub for foreign military support to Ukraine's Defense Forces. Around 90% of Western aid to Ukraine passes through this hub.
Previously, on December 2, the Norwegian government pledged to deploy F-35 fighter jets and NASAMS air defense systems in Poland to protect the key hub of aid to Ukraine in Rzeszów.
