Norway to Allocate $242 Million to Strengthen Ukraine’s Navy Against Russian Threats
The Norwegian government will allocate 2.7 billion kroner (approximately $242 million) to strengthen Ukraine's navy and support its efforts to deter Russian naval forces in the Black Sea.
This was reported on December 16 by Reuters, citing Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.
"It is essential to protect the Ukrainian population and Ukrainian infrastructure from attacks by Russia's Black Sea Fleet," Støre said in a statement.
A significant portion of the funding will focus on innovation and autonomy as part of the Maritime Capability Coalition, an initiative launched by Norway and Britain last year to enhance the compatibility of Ukraine's navy with Western allies, the government announced.
"It is also important to protect exports by sea of grain and other products, which generate crucial revenues for Ukraine," Støre added.
The assistance includes contributions from the Norwegian Armed Forces and military equipment purchased from the industry for later donation. According to the government, the funds will also support mine clearance operations and the training of Ukrainian soldiers.
Previously, it was reported that Norway has raised its funding to support Ukraine to a minimum of 35 billion Norwegian kroner (around $3.16 billion) by 2025.
