Norway has allocated 50 million Norwegian kroner (approximately $4.5 million) to the “Grain from Ukraine” initiative. With this latest contribution, Norway’s total support for the program now stands at nearly $13.5 million, making it one of the largest contributors to the program.

The “Grain from Ukraine” initiative, launched by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on November 26 2022–coinciding with the day of remembrance for the victims of the Holodomor, the Soviet-made famine of 1932-1933–aims to combat global hunger.

Through the program, participating countries purchase Ukrainian agricultural products and donate them to some of the world’s most food-insecure nations, particularly in Africa and Asia. The initiative operates with the support of Ukraine, partner nations, and private sector donors to address the global food crisis aggravated by Russia’s ongoing war in Ukraine.

Norway is ranked 12th in the world in terms of the amount of aid provided to Ukraine. To date, it has provided $2.8 billion in humanitarian, financial, and military support. Norway’s military aid includes financing the production of Ukrainian weapons and military equipment and the procurement of Patriot missile systems, as well as a commitment to provide F-16 fighter jets and NASAMS systems in the near future.
