Ukraine to Receive F-16 Aircraft and NASAMS Systems From Norway
Ukraine will receive F-16 aircraft and NASAMS systems from Norway as part of a new €500 million aid package, reported Director of the Department of International Defense Cooperation Hennadii Kovalenko.
Kovalenko announced this during the Kyiv Security Forum on October 31.
According to Kovalenko, the package will include F-16 aircraft and NASAMS systems, as stated by Norwegian Defense Minister Bjørn Arild Gram.
“The Norwegian side also expressed readiness to invest in the Ukrainian defense industry, following Denmark’s example,” the official said.
Kovalenko added that during the Norwegian Defense Minister’s visit to Odesa, he was shown border fortifications and the Rehabilitation Center for wounded servicemen.
Earlier, Gram announced that Norway would allocate $118.8 million for the purchase of weapon systems and spare parts for Ukrainian F-16s as part of the US “Jumpstart” initiative. The country is also ready to co-finance the strengthening of Ukraine's air defense.
On October 29, 2024, Norway announced a significant financial commitment of approximately €120 million to support Ukraine in acquiring another Patriot missile defense system from Romania. This decision was confirmed by Norway’s Prime Minister, Jonas Gahr Støre.
