The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) overwhelmingly adopted the resolution “European Commitment to a Just and Lasting Peace in Ukraine,” an RBC correspondent reported from Strasbourg, France.

A total of 86 PACE delegates voted in favor, with no opposition and six abstentions. The resolution was supported by all political groups within PACE, except for the Unified European Left Group.

The resolution emphasizes that Russia continues its efforts to undermine the international order, including by involving Iran and North Korea in its aggression against Ukraine.

“PACE acknowledges that a strong position and robust defense capabilities (‘peace through strength’) are essential for sustainable peace negotiations,” the resolution states, urging the West to increase all forms of support for Ukraine.

Additionally, an amendment calling on US authorities to restore financial support for Ukraine, including through USAID, was rejected.

PARE delegates also approved an amendment recognizing China as a “decisive factor in Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine” and urging Beijing to “cease its support for Russia’s military machine.”

On January 5, in an interview with Lex Fridman, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed deep concerns about the prospect of a ceasefire with Russia without robust security guarantees for Ukraine.
