Poland’s New President Karol Nawrocki Signals Continued Support for Ukraine

Poland’s newly elected president, Karol Nawrocki, voiced support for deepening ties with Ukraine and emphasized the need to resolve long-standing historical differences between the two nations.
In a post on X on June 3, Nawrocki responded to a congratulatory message from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who expressed hopes for productive cooperation with the incoming Polish leader.
“I am looking forward to countinue partnership of our countries, based on mutual respect and understanding. This requires not only meaningful dialogue, but also a resolution of pressing historical issues,” Nawrocki wrote.

He underscored Poland’s unwavering support for Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression.
“Poland has been Ukraine's strongest supporter against the Russian aggression, no other nation understands this threat more than we do,” he stated.
Nawrocki expressed hope for further joint efforts to strengthen bilateral relations.
“I hope we’ll continue to work together for the common good, for settling the unsettled past and building safe future together,” he concluded.
Earlier, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk had sharply criticized Karol Nawrocki for pledging to oppose Ukraine’s accession to NATO, calling the stance “tantamount to treason.”
