Polish Navy Intercepts Sanctioned Russian Shadow Fleet Vessel Near Baltic Power Cable

A Russian vessel from the so-called "shadow fleet," operating under international sanctions, was observed conducting suspicious maneuvers near an undersea power cable linking Poland and Sweden.
This was reported by the Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk on X, on May 21.
Polish naval forces intervened, prompting the vessel to retreat to a Russian port. In response, the Polish Navy deployed its reconnaissance ship ORP Heweliusz to the incident site.
The event comes just days after Estonia’s Navy intercepted the Jaguar, a Russian-linked tanker, in international waters of the Gulf of Finland. The ship, sailing without a flag, ignored commands from Estonian border guards and was ultimately escorted toward Russian territorial waters.

During the standoff, a Russian Su-35 fighter jet violated Estonian airspace near the Juminda Peninsula. The jet had no flight plan, its transponder was disabled, and no radio contact was made with Estonian air traffic control. The incursion lasted under a minute but marked a clear breach of NATO airspace.
Earlier, Russian authorities had released the Green Admire oil tanker, which was detained on May 18 after departing the Estonian port of Sillamäe with a shipment of shale oil.
The vessel left Russian territorial waters on the evening of May 19 and is currently en route to Rotterdam.
