“Putin Is a War Criminal Who Should Be in Jail for Life, If Not Executed,” Says U.S. Senator

U.S. Senator Roger Wicker, the ranking member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, stated on February 18 that Russian leader Vladimir Putin should be tried and possibly executed for his actions.
In an interview with CNN journalist Manu Raju, Wicker discussed the recent meeting between American and Russian delegations in Saudi Arabia, where Russia’s ongoing war against Ukraine was among the topics covered.
When asked whether Putin could be trusted in future peace negotiations, Wicker responded, “No. Putin is a war criminal who should be in jail for the rest of his life, if not executed.” He also remarked that “the Russians will try to do anything to their advantage.”
Regarding concerns about Ukraine and Europe not being directly involved in the U.S.-Russia talks, Wicker stated, “I don’t know what the scheme is. There may very well be a method to all of this,” but emphasized that “ultimately Ukraine needs to be at the table to get a fair result.”
Previously, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the policies of the United States and the administration of President Donald Trump are contributing to Russia’s reintegration into the international arena, effectively ending the long-standing isolation of Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
