Putin Sends Russia-Belarus Defense Treaty to Parliament for Approval

Russian leader Vladimir Putin has submitted a security guarantee treaty with Belarus to the State Duma for ratification according to RBC Ukraine.
The treaty, signed in Minsk in December 2024, includes provisions for the potential use of nuclear weapons.
The document specifies that Russia and Belarus will treat any armed attack on either country as an act of aggression against both nations, effectively binding them together in a shared defense pact under the Union State framework.
It also states that Russia may use nuclear weapons if conventional weapons are used against either country, posing a threat to their sovereignty.
Furthermore, the treaty allows for the establishment of military facilities and the deployment of Russian military forces on Belarusian territory to counter potential threats.
On February 5, Belarus Central Election Commission head, Igor Karpenko, suggested replacing direct presidential elections with a more centralized system, similar to China’s, during an interview on state television.
