Putin Threatens Harsh Retaliation After New US Sanctions, Rules Out Ending War

Russian leader Vladimir Putin has ruled out ending military operations in Ukraine despite new US sanctions, warning of a “stunning response” if Western countries supply long-range Tomahawk missiles capable of striking Russian territory, The Moscow Times reported on October 23.
Speaking after attending a congress of the Russian Geographical Society, Putin dismissed the latest US sanctions as “an attempt to exert pressure,” claiming that “no self-respecting country makes decisions under pressure.”
His remarks effectively ruled out the possibility of halting the war, The Moscow Times wrote.

Putin also threatened to retaliate strongly if Ukraine received Western long-range weapons. “We will deliver a strong, if not stunning, response. Let them think about that,” he said, accusing the West of trying to escalate the war.
Commenting on US President Donald Trump’s decision to cancel a planned summit in Budapest, Putin said the meeting was “likely postponed” and “needs proper preparation to avoid a pointless outcome,” The Moscow Times stated.
Previously, it was reported that US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said that Washington’s sweeping new sanctions against Russia’s oil giants were imposed because “Putin lied” about wanting peace in Ukraine, according to Fox Business.
