Putin Wants Suspension of Arms Supplies to Ukraine as Condition for Ceasefire, Bloomberg Reports

Russian leader Vladimir Putin is allegedly insisting Ukraine’s arms deliveries be halted as a key condition for peace talks, Bloomberg reported on March 18, citing sources familiar with the situation.
The Russian leader and US President are set to discuss the proposal in a phone call on Tuesday, with the aim of reaching a 30-day truce.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed the timing of the call will be between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. Moscow time.
Putin, who met with a Trump envoy, Steve Witkoff last week, has made halting arms supplies a condition for agreeing to the ceasefire, according to a senior European official and three people in Moscow familiar with the Kremlin’s stance.
The official also noted that Europe is reluctant to support this demand, fearing it could leave Ukraine vulnerable while allowing Russia to rearm.
Despite this, Putin has expressed support for the US ceasefire proposal in principle, pending conditions.
Trump has offered to meet with Putin to discuss the terms of the truce, which would serve as the first step toward a comprehensive peace agreement.
Sources in Moscow added that the suspension of arms supplies would be temporary, with weapons resuming after a peace accord, in which Ukraine would agree to limits on its military capabilities.
Earlier, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that US President Donald Trump is prepared to impose sanctions on Russia if necessary following his upcoming talks with leader Vladimir Putin, on March 17.
