On the night of March 18, Russia attacked Ukraine with 137 Shahed attack and imitation drones. The drones were launched from four directions, the Ukrainian Air Force reported on March 18.
Russia launched its attack drones from the directions of the Russian cities of Shatalovo, Kursk, Millerovo, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk.
As of 09:00 am, 63 Shahed attack UAVs and other types of drones were downed in Kharkiv, Poltava, Sumy, Chernihiv, Cherkasy, Kyiv, Vinnytsia, Kirovohrad, Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia, Mykolaiv and Kherson regions. 64 imitator drones were downed by EW systems.
Debris from a downed Russian drone fell onto the grounds of a school in Kyiv’s Desnianskyi district, sparking a fire in an open area, Kyiv Military Administration Chief Tymur Tkachenko reported.
Emergency services rushed to the scene on Putyvlska Street, where the wreckage ignited a fire. Firefighters and rescue crews are working to contain the situation, while officials assess possible damage and casualties.
“Debris from an enemy UAV was recorded falling on the grounds of an educational institution in the Desnianskyi district. A fire broke out in an open area, and emergency services are responding. Information on damage and casualties is being clarified,” Tkachenko stated.
All students were safely sheltered in a bomb shelter during the air raid alert, and no immediate injuries have been reported.
As of 9:49 am the fire, caused by the debris was extinguished, Tkachenko reported.
Earlier, Russian forces attacked the Odesa region with drones, injuring one person.
“The enemy strikes ignited a defunct warehouse, a store, and a civilian vehicle,” the State Emergency Service wrote. “A kindergarten and a private house were also damaged. One person was injured.”
