Kyiv and several regions across Ukraine were hit overnight and into the morning of December 23 by a large-scale Russian drone and missile attack that struck residential areas, energy infrastructure, and civilian targets, leaving multiple people dead and wounded, including children.

With winter coming, Russia has been increasing its attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure, leaving cities without essential services like heat, water, or electricity. Despite these harsh challenges, children’s clubs in Ukraine are adapting to the outages, utilizing charging stations and generators.

In an interview for UNITED24 Media, photographer Yelena Yemchuk reveals that she returned to Kyiv with no intention of taking pictures—but an organic encounter with memory, muse, and the momentum of women staying behind in wartime, gave rise to the project Mnemosyne. Her first exhibit in Ukraine, it is currently on display at  The Naked Room gallery in Kyiv.

Russia hammered Kyiv in the early hours of November 25 with a coordinated barrage of Kalibrs, Kinzhals, and Shahed drones, leaving multiple apartment blocks in flames and killing at least seven people and injuring 21, including children.
