Russia unleashed a massive overnight missile and drone attack on Kyiv and its region, killing at least 9 people and injuring dozens more in one of the deadliest assaults on Ukraine’s capital in recent months.

“We were literally one building section away from dying,” says one of the survivors of this morning’s attack in Kyiv. His home—an apartment building struck directly by a Russian missile—now has a gaping hole spanning nine stories.

A massive overnight missile and drone strike on Kyiv killed at least 24 people, including a 62-year-old US citizen identified as Grendy Frederick Glenn, and injured more than 134.

For many, it’s hard to imagine what life is like in a city under rocket fire. But for millions in Kyiv, it’s getting harder to imagine what life in a peaceful city used to feel like. Through the adaptation Russia’s war has forced on Kyiv, people have learned not just to endure but, at times, to live and even thrive under the hardest of circumstances.
