Russian Attack Damages Holy Intercession Church in Kyiv’s Podil District

A Holy Intercession Church in Kyiv’s Podilskyi district was damaged during a Russian attack on the Ukrainian capital overnight on September 24, according to Volodymyr Nakonechnyi, head of the Podilskyi District State Administration.

Nakonechnyi reported the damage on Facebook and published photographs showing the aftermath of the attack.

The blast wave damaged the church’s windows, domes, and facade. The building is distinguished by its exposed yellow Kyiv brickwork, which has been preserved without plaster.

The church was among numerous civilian sites damaged across Kyiv during the overnight attack. Ukraine’s State Emergency Service reported that the strikes affected four districts of the capital, killing two people and injuring at least eight others.

Several residential buildings, an administrative facility, a maternity hospital, and a clinical diagnostic center were damaged. The attack also affected critical energy and logistics infrastructure, as well as a post office, warehouses, nine private homes, and dozens of civilian vehicles.

The damage to the Kyiv church comes two days after another Russian attack struck a religious site in Kramatorsk, Donetsk region. The September 22 attack damaged the Church of St. John the Baptist and dozens of other civilian properties, killing one person and injuring five others, according to Donetsk regional police.

Police said Russian forces dropped five aerial bombs on Kramatorsk, including KAB-500 and KAB-250 guided bombs, while also carrying out drone strikes.
