Russian Drone and Missile Barrage Damages Kyiv Maternity Hospital and Odesa Medical Facility

Russian forces launched a massive missile and drone strike across Ukraine on September 24, killing at least two people in Kyiv and damaging medical facilities in the capital and Odesa, despite Ukrainian air defenses intercepting over 200 drones and seven advanced missiles.
Russian forces launched a large-scale overnight assault on Ukraine, deploying a mix of anti-ship and ballistic missiles alongside a swarm of 282 strike drones, the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported on September 24.
Ukrainian air defense systems successfully intercepted a significant portion of the complex barrage, neutralizing four Zircon cruise missiles, three ballistic missiles, one S8000 “Banderol” jet-powered loitering munition, and 219 unmanned aerial vehicles.

Despite the high interception rate, the Air Force reported direct enemy hits in 13 locations and falling debris in 10 others, noting that the primary attack directions were the Kyiv and Odesa regions.
In southern Odesa, the strikes injured two people, according to Oleh Kiper, head of the Odesa Regional State Administration. Kiper stated that the attack damaged the roof and top floor of a local medical facility, while blast waves shattered windows across ten residential buildings and a school.
The Ukrainian capital also sustained widespread damage. The State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SESU) reported that the aftermath of the attack was recorded across four distinct districts of Kyiv, with two civilians reported dead and at least eight more injured.
The agency confirmed damage to multiple residential buildings, an administrative center, a maternity hospital, and a clinical diagnostic center. The assault also impacted the city’s critical energy and logistics infrastructure, damaging a post office, warehouses, nine private homes, and dozens of civilian vehicles.

A Russian strike on Kyiv’s data centers and communications infrastructure had recently left around 100,000 households in the capital and surrounding region without internet connectivity. The attack damaged facilities belonging to internet service providers Pavutyna and UTELS, while a strike on a traffic exchange point extended disruptions to users in Vinnytsia and Khmelnytskyi.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha stated that Moscow is intentionally targeting data infrastructure to disable early warning systems, aiming to cut civilians off from life-saving air raid notifications.
