Russia Destroys Fifth JYSK Store in One Month, No Staff or Customers Injured

A Russian attack on Zaporizhzhia destroyed a shopping center and a JYSK store on September 23, marking the retailer’s fifth store destroyed by Russian strikes within a month.
Ukraine’s State Emergency Service reported that firefighters extinguished a blaze covering about 6,000 square meters. Crews repeatedly suspended operations and moved to shelters because of the threat of renewed strikes.

Two men were wounded in the attack, while emergency services continued working at the site.
The strike also destroyed a JYSK store inside the shopping center. Ievgenii Ivanytsia, Country Director at JYSK Ukraine, wrote on LinkedIn that it was the company’s fifth store destroyed by Russian attacks over the past month.
“Sumy, Dnipro, Kryvyi Rih, and twice Zaporizhzhia—five JYSK stores destroyed by Russian attacks,” Ivanytsia wrote.
He added that compliance with safety procedures again prevented casualties among JYSK employees and customers. Staff from the destroyed stores will be offered relocation to other Ukrainian cities where the company continues operating.

The September 23 attack followed a series of Russian strikes on retail facilities in Zaporizhzhia. During August and September, Russian forces also struck the Epicentr, City Mall, and Amstor shopping centers, while the Intrade shopping center was destroyed earlier this week, the report noted.
JYSK had already addressed its operations in Zaporizhzhia and Sumy after Russian forces repeatedly hit Amstor in Zaporizhzhia and Manufactura in Sumy. The company's stores there suspended operations.
The attack adds to a run of Russian strikes on retail sites in Ukrainian cities over the past two months.
On August 12, a mass strike on Zaporizhzhia with six missiles destroyed the Epicentr shopping center and left one person dead and nine injured.
On August 21, drones hit Kryvyi Rih's largest shopping complex, killing 16 people and injuring at least 130, including 23 children.
On September 9, a Russian drone struck the Manufactura shopping center in Sumy, killing two people and injuring 20.
Zaporizhzhia was hit again on September 21, when drones damaged apartment buildings, a university, and a shopping center, injuring at least six civilians.
