“Nobody Is Talking About Hundreds or Thousands”: Zelenskyy Points to US for Larger Interceptor Supplies

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine is assembling hundreds of missiles by securing them from partners just one or two at a time.
Zelenskyy made the remarks at a briefing in New York, Suspilne reported on September 24. He was responding to a journalist’s question about how many missiles Ukraine receives at a time.

“Nobody is talking about hundreds or thousands. Hundreds are being gathered, one or two missiles at a time,” Zelenskyy stated, as quoted by Suspilne.
The Ukrainian leader described the process as extremely complex. He said that securing even batches of two, three, or five missiles requires decisions made directly by partner countries’ leaders.
Requests handled only between lower-level teams produce no results, he added, because the missiles are scarce and expensive.
Zelenskyy identified the US as the only country capable of providing missiles on a significantly larger scale. He said he was asking US President Donald Trump to help meet Ukraine’s needs despite global shortages and depleted stockpiles caused in part by the war in the Middle East.
Suspilne added that Zelenskyy stressed Ukraine continues to work with all of its partners.
The plea to Washington comes after weeks of strained deliveries of Patriot interceptors.
US President Donald Trump reportedly declined Zelenskyy's request for several hundred additional Patriot missiles during talks in the Oval Office on July 28.
He cited depleted American stockpiles and Middle East commitments.
On August 5, Ukrainian air defenses failed to stop any of the 28 missiles Russia launched, including 24 ballistic missiles, in an attack that killed 17 people in Kyiv and the surrounding region.
Three days later, Zelenskyy announced that the US had agreed to monthly Patriot deliveries, without disclosing volumes, while cautioning that the supply would not be sufficient.
