Russia Strikes Building Housing Medical Center in Central Kyiv, Setting Upper Floors Ablaze

On September 28, the Russian attack on central Kyiv hit the Dobrobut Academy, with the upper floors of the Dobrobut medical center catching fire, according to monitoring channels.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko earlier stated that a Russian strike hit the seven-story administrative building in the Shevchenkivskyi district on September 28, striking it at the level of the fourth floor.

The incident came amid a broader Russian attack on the Ukrainian capital that also damaged a building belonging to Ukraine’s National Academy of Sciences in the Shevchenkivskyi district. A Russian drone struck the facility, sparking a fire.

The National Academy of Sciences later clarified to Ukrinform that the building had sustained a direct drone hit rather than damage from falling debris.

“A Russian drone directly hit a building of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine,” the academy’s press service said.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said rescue crews were working at the site to extinguish the fire and search for people who may have been inside the building.

“A rescue operation is currently underway, the fire is being extinguished, and they are searching for people who may have been inside the building. All services are involved,” Zelenskyy said.

Klitschko had initially reported that a drone struck a nonresidential building in central Kyiv, with emergency services responding to the scene.

Across the capital, at least 19 people, including three children, were injured in the September 28 attacks, according to Klitschko. Six of the injured, including two children, were hospitalized, while one woman was killed.

Several days earlier, A Russian jet-powered drone struck an office building in Kyiv’s Solomianskyi district, leaving three people dead and seven others injured.
