Russian forces launched ballistic strikes across six districts of Kyiv beginning on the evening of October 21, killing one person and injuring 22 others, including four children, Ukraine’s State Emergency Service reported on October 22.

The attacks caused fires and damage to residential buildings, vehicles, transport infrastructure, medical vehicles, and a monastery across the capital.

Ukraine is facing a severe shortage of Patriot interceptors, one of the few systems capable of reliably engaging Russian ballistic missiles. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has warned that limited PAC-2 and PAC-3 supplies leave Ukrainian cities and critical infrastructure more exposed to Russian strikes, while Kyiv continues pressing partners for additional missiles to protect civilians.

In Kyiv’s Dniprovskyi district, one person was killed and a child was hospitalized. Five other people were injured as residential and nonresidential buildings caught fire and homes and vehicles were damaged.

In the Darnytskyi district, Russian strikes damaged transport infrastructure, with no casualties reported.

A nonresidential building and a restaurant complex caught fire in the Sviatoshynskyi district. Emergency crews extinguished a blaze covering 1,100 square meters.

In the Obolonskyi district, two people were injured and several nonresidential buildings were damaged. Fires caused by the attack were extinguished, the State Emergency Service reported.

Eight people, including three children, were injured in the Pecherskyi district, where buildings, ambulances, and a monastery were damaged.

Another six people were injured in the Holosiivskyi district after a strike hit a nonresidential building.

Emergency authorities noted that information on the consequences of the Russian attack was still being updated.

Russian attacks have repeatedly damaged Kyiv’s medical facilities in recent days. On October 20, a Russian drone struck an operating room at the Strazhesko Institute of Cardiology, injuring one patient and partially damaging the hospital’s upper floor.
