Russian forces struck an operating room at Kyiv’s Strazhesko Institute of Cardiology, injuring one patient, according to Ukrainian Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi on October 20.

Koretsky confirmed in a Telegram post that the strike hit the institute’s sixth floor, where an operating room is located. The facility, operated by Ukraine’s National Academy of Medical Sciences, provides specialized cardiovascular treatment to patients from across the country.

“Fortunately, there were no fatalities. One patient was injured and received all necessary medical care,” Koretskyi wrote. He thanked the institute’s doctors and staff for continuing to treat patients despite the attacks.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that a Russian drone struck the upper floor of a medical facility in the capital’s Solomianskyi district, partially destroying its roof. Emergency services responded, while district authorities prioritized relocating patients and securing damaged windows.

The institute was previously struck during a Russian aerial assault on September 28, 2025. That attack damaged its fourth floor and parts of the third and fifth floors, killing a nurse and a patient. The National Academy of Medical Sciences confirmed that patients were evacuated to other departments and that the hospital continued to operate despite the damage.

The latest strike followed another Russian attack on Kyiv’s medical infrastructure on October 19, when a consultative and diagnostic center in the Solomianskyi district sustained extensive damage. More than 200 windows were shattered, while doors, ceilings, and medical equipment were damaged. The Kyiv City Health Department confirmed that the facility suspended operations and medical personnel were reassigned to other hospitals.

The October 19 damage in the Solomianskyi district came during a much wider Russian assault on the capital and surrounding region, which killed at least two people and injured 14 others, including three children.

Russian forces launched ballistic and cruise missiles alongside 269 drones, hitting residential buildings, educational institutions, and transport infrastructure. In Kyiv's Desnianskyi district, the strikes damaged a private medical facility and forced the temporary closure of the Chernihivska and Lisova metro stations. Ukrainian air defenses intercepted or suppressed 247 aerial targets.
