According to the Kyiv City Military Administration, one person was killed and eight others were injured in the capital, where damage was recorded in the Desnianskyi, Dniprovskyi, and Solomianskyi districts.
In the Desnianskyi district, the strikes damaged a private medical facility and a metro station. Authorities subsequently announced the temporary closure of the Chernihivska and Lisova metro stations on Kyiv’s left bank.
Debris from the attack damaged both the running and power rails near one of the stations, disrupting metro operations in the affected area.
In the Dniprovskyi district, falling debris damaged educational institutions and a sports facility, while additional debris landed on nonresidential premises.
Meanwhile, in the Solomianskyi district, a fire broke out inside a medical facility located on the third floor of a 25-story residential building. Emergency services extinguished the blaze, while the attack also damaged windows in nearby buildings and a shopping center.
The missile strikes also raised concerns about the lack of advance warning for residents. According to sources cited by Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty journalist Alex Raufoglu, the ballistic missile attack on Kyiv once again occurred without any warning, a situation that has reportedly happened on previous occasions.

Beyond the capital, Russian strikes caused casualties and extensive damage in several communities across Kyiv region, particularly in Irpin, Bucha district.
According to Head of the Kyiv Regional State Administration Tymur Tkachenko, six people were injured in Irpin, including three children, while three others were reported missing. Deputy Mayor Oleksandr Pashchynskyi also confirmed that a woman had been killed in the attack.
In the wider Bucha district, the strikes damaged 11 private houses, six vehicles, an industrial facility, a warehouse, and an educational institution. Windows were also shattered in several apartment buildings.
In the Vyshhorod district, authorities reported damage to a private residence, five vehicles, and an infrastructure facility.

The overnight assault formed part of a broader Russian aerial attack involving multiple types of missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles launched from Russian territory and occupied Ukrainian regions.
According to Ukraine’s Air Force, Russian forces launched Iskander-M/S-400 ballistic missiles from Russia’s Smolensk, Bryansk, and Kursk regions, as well as Iskander-K cruise missiles from the airspace over the Kursk region.
The attack also involved 269 drones, including Shahed-type attack UAVs, S-8000 Banderol drones, Gerbera drones, and Parodiya decoys. Of the total, 59 were jet-powered drones.

As of 9 a.m. on October 19, Ukrainian air defenses had intercepted or suppressed 247 aerial targets, including four Iskander-K cruise missiles and 243 drones of various types. Among the intercepted drones were 43 jet-powered UAVs, according to the Air Force’s preliminary assessment.
The latest attack comes amid renewed attention to Ukraine’s access to intelligence needed to detect incoming Russian missile strikes. On October 18, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that the United States had resumed intelligence sharing with Ukraine following a temporary suspension, restoring a key channel of military cooperation amid concerns over the availability of early warnings about Russian missile attacks.
