Republicans Take Senate Majority as Democrats Lose Key West Virginia Seat
The Republican Party has gained control of the US Senate following the election results.
According to CNN, the Republican Party now holds a majority in the US Senate with 51 out of 100 seats.
This shift occurred after West Virginia Governor Jim Justice, a Republican, won the Senate seat left vacant by Democrat Joe Manchin, who had announced he wouldn’t seek re-election, leading the Democrats to halt their campaign for the seat.
A Republican majority in the Senate could strengthen Donald Trump’s position if he wins the presidential election. With this advantage, Senate Republicans could support Trump’s agenda and drive substantial judicial restructuring by appointing more conservatives, CNN states.
Meanwhile, control of the House of Representatives remains undecided as votes continue to be counted. Currently, Democrats hold 165 seats and Republicans 189, with 218 needed for a majority.
Donald Trump declared himself a winner in the US Presidential election during a rally with his supporters in Florida, Sky News reported on November 6.
