Rheinmetall to Manufacture Lynx Infantry Fighting Vehicles in Ukraine
Rheinmetall, the German conglomerate, has reached an agreement with Ukraine to commence the production of Lynx infantry fighting vehicles. The announcement came from Oleksandr Kamyshin, Minister of Strategic Industries, during a Ukraine Recovery Conference in Berlin, as reported by Handelsblatt.
“We will manufacture the first Lynx this year,” Kamyshin stated. However, neither Kamyshin nor Rheinmetall’s CEO Armin Papperger disclosed the location of the production facility due to security concerns.
The Lynx project is set to be financed by the German government. Additionally, Papperger mentioned expanding cooperation between Ukrainian defense industries and German technological groups, signing a memorandum of understanding with Kamyshin during the conference.
The Lynx infantry fighting vehicle, unveiled by Rheinmetall in 2018, weighing up to 44 tons, includes the LANCE turret with a 30mm or 35mm gun and missile launcher. With a crew of three and capacity for up to eight passengers, the Lynx is used for protection against 30mm frontal and 14.5mm side projectiles, with the hull designed to withstand explosions equivalent to 10kg of TNT.
Earlier, Ukraine inaugurated a collaborative defense production facility with Rheinmetall, a leading German defense corporation.
