The Romanian Senate has approved two bills that grant the military authority to shoot down unauthorized drones and regulate the conduct of military operations on Romanian territory during peacetime. The vote, which was decisive, took place on Febraury 26, according to Radio Svoboda.
The bill on national airspace control passed with 78 votes in favor, 11 against, and 2 abstentions. A second bill, which outlines the framework for military missions and operations within Romania, was approved with 80 votes in favor, 12 against, and 2 abstentions.
“Strengthening Romania’s defense! (…) The first law regulates the shooting down of unauthorized drones that violate Romanian airspace. The second law allows for more effective cooperation between the Romanian army and NATO partners on national territory, in military missions and operations in peacetime,” the acting head of the Senate, Mircea Abrudean, wrote on Facebook.
Earlier, Ukraine began using FPV drones to intercept and destroy Russian Shahed drones, an approach that has already shown results.
