Russia is developing a satellite capable of carrying a nuclear weapon, according to the latest Annual Threat Assessment released by the United States intelligence community.

The report, cited by Sky News on March 25, warns that such a system could have “devastating consequences” for both the United States and the broader international community.

The assessment also notes that the ongoing war in Ukraine has provided Russia with extensive insights into Western weapons systems and intelligence-gathering capabilities.

While the report concludes that Moscow is unlikely to secure a complete victory in Ukraine, it emphasizes that the balance of power currently favors Russian forces.

Despite concerns over Russia’s nuclear ambitions, military analysts have pointed out that the likelihood of nuclear war remains unchanged.

According to analyst Michael Clarke, nuclear weapons offer limited tactical advantage in the current war and are unlikely to alter battlefield dynamics.

Earlier, satellite imagery revealed Russia preparing its R-30 “Bulava” intercontinental ballistic missile, a key component of its strategic nuclear forces. The images showed coordinated operations involving Russia’s 12th Main Directorate, responsible for nuclear armament.

The Bulava, designed for Borey-class submarines, can carry multiple warheads with a range of up to 9,300 kilometers. Despite Russian claims of a successful launch, Ukraine’s intelligence reported a failed test in November.
