Footage Reveals Russian Forces Executing 2 Captured Ukrainian Soldiers in Kursk Region
Russian forces execute two captured Ukrainian soldiers in Russia’s Kursk region.
A video of the execution was provided to the Ukrainian activist Serhii Sternenko by the Ukrainian forces.
“It happened today in the Kursk region. The video was provided by our military. You can see how the Russians shot at least two unarmed Ukrainians at point-blank range,” Sternenko wrote.
“Prisoners of war must always be protected, especially from acts of violence. Yet, once again, Russia has committed a war crime, flagrantly violating the Geneva Convention and international humanitarian law,” wrote Dmytro Lubinets, the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights. “I have sent letters to the United Nations and the International Committee of the Red Cross regarding this atrocity.”
In October, the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) has reported a rise in the executions of Ukrainian prisoners of war (POWs) by Russian military forces. Their latest reports suggest that Russian commanders may be permitting, encouraging, or even directly ordering these acts.
