Russian Forces Execute Two Captured Ukrainian Soldiers in Donetsk Region
Russian forces executed two captured Ukrainian soldiers near Selydove in Donetsk region.
“According to operational data, on October 18, 2024, at 14:38, representatives of the Russian Armed Forces captured two Ukrainian servicemen in the Pokrovsk district. The occupiers, who stormed a forest plantation near the city of Selydove, placed the unarmed prisoners of war face down. They held them in this position, pressing them to the ground with their feet, and after a while, executed them at close range with automatic weapons,” the Prosecutor General's Office wrote.
The killing of prisoners of war is a gross violation of the Geneva Conventions and constitutes a grave war crime.
The Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into the violation of the laws and customs of war, combined with intentional murder.
Videos of Russian military forces executing Ukrainian prisoners of war have been repeatedly circulated online. Currently, Ukrainian law enforcement has information about the execution of 102 prisoners of war on the battlefield. Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, at least 177 Ukrainian prisoners have died in Russian captivity, according to Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense, as reported by Politico.
