Russia Has Launched A New Offensive In Kharkiv Region. What Is Known So Far?
Russia has started a new wave of offensive actions in the Kharkiv direction. Ukraine’s forces hold back Russia’s assault, and battles continue.
In a May 10th briefing with Slovakian President Zuzana Čaputová, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed Russia’s renewed offensive in the Kharkiv Region.
“Ukraine is prepared. Our troops, brigades, and artillery met them head-on,” Zelenskyy stated. “While Russia may increase forces in the region, our military anticipated this and is ready to respond forcefully.”
Russia escalated its assault on Ukraine’s Kharkiv defense line late on May 9th, employing heavy artillery support. Around 5:00 AM on May 10th, Russian forces attempted to breach the defense in northern Kharkiv Region under cover of armored vehicles.
The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense reported Russian airstrikes near Vovchansk, employing guided aerial bombs.
Authorities, police, and volunteers are coordinating the evacuation of Vovchansk and surrounding areas in the Kharkiv Region.
While initial attacks have been repelled, battles of varying intensity continue in the Kharkiv Region. Reserve units have been deployed to strengthen Ukraine’s defenses. Ukrainian forces are determined to hold back Russia’s renewed offensive.
After successfully driving Russian troops out of much of the Kharkiv Region in 2022, Ukraine now faces a resurgence of Russian aggression as Moscow attempts to regain control in this direction.
