Russia Jails Mariupol Defender Valerii Yeremeyev for 22 Years Over Fabricated Charges

A Russian court has sentenced Mariupol defender Valerii Yeremeyev to 22 years in prison, accusing him of a fabricated crime, specifically the alleged "execution of a civilian."
This was reported by the Mariupol City Council’s Telegram account on December 10.

The Russian court claimed that Yeremeyev, a Ukrainian soldier, allegedly shot a man in a vehicle, believing him to hold “pro-Russian views.”
Following their usual procedures, Russian authorities declared that the defender acted according to a “plan of the Kyiv regime.” According to the report, there was no independent investigation, no involvement of independent lawyers, and no solid evidence to support the charges.
The court's ruling sentenced Valerii Yeremeyev to 22 years in a high-security correctional facility.

“The purpose of all verdicts against Mariupol defenders is the same—to discredit Ukrainian defenders and accuse them of destroying the city, distorting reality. It was the Russian military who invaded Ukraine in 2022 and imposed a full blockade on Mariupol,” the Mariupol City Council stated.
The City Council also emphasized that at least 22,000 civilians, including children, lost their lives due to Russian shelling of Mariupol.
Earlier, the Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don handed down sentences to three Ukrainian prisoners of war from the Azov and Aidar battalions, who were accused of terrorism-related crimes.
The defendants were convicted for being members of a terrorist group and undergoing training for terrorist actions.
