Russian Commander Behind Deadly Attack on Hroza Village Dies, Ukrainian Intelligence Reports

A Russian military officer linked to the missile strike on the village of Hroza in Ukraine’s Kharkiv region has died in Russia, according to Ukraine’s Main Directorate of Intelligence (HUR) on February 8.
Captain Konstantin Nagaiiko, identified as the commander of a battery within Russia’s 112th Missile Brigade (military unit 03333), was reportedly responsible for ballistic missile strikes on Ukrainian territory, including the October 5, 2023, attack on Hroza that resulted in the deaths of 59 civilians.
According to HUR, Nagaiiko sustained multiple injuries in an explosion on January 3, 2025, in the town of Shuya, Ivanovo region, Russia, where he was stationed. Ukrainian intelligence states that he later succumbed to his injuries.
The Russian Ministry of Defense has not commented on the report, and independent sources have not verified the claim.
On October 5, 2023, a Russian Iskander missile struck a café in Hroza, a village in Ukraine’s Kharkiv region, where a memorial gathering was taking place. At the time, around 60 people were present. The attack resulted in 59 fatalities, including local residents, medical workers, teachers, farmers, and business owners.
