The Chief of Staff of the “Storm-Ossetia” battalion, a unit within Russia’s 429th Motorized Rifle Regiment, has been eliminated by Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence (HUR) forces. The operation occurred on December 29, 2024, along the Vasylivka-Tokmak highway in the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia region.

According to HUR’s official statement, the mission was conducted by the “Kraken” active operations unit using FPV drones. The target, Sergey Melnikov, known by his call sign “Kama,” was killed along with his driver.

HUR operatives obtained critical intelligence about the movements and schedule of Melnikov, facilitating the planning of an FPV drone ambush. As the vehicle—a UAZ Patriot—was traveling along its route, drone operators initiated the assault by forcing the driver into evasive maneuvers. Startled by the initial drone attack, the driver lost control of the vehicle, which veered off the road. A second drone strike then hit the vehicle’s front, resulting in the deaths of both.

Earlier, On January 3, in Shuya, Ivanovo region, Russia, a blast severely injured Captain Konstantin Nagaiiko, the commander of a missile division within the 112th Rocket Brigade of Russia’s Western Military District.

Nagayko, reportedly responsible for ballistic missile strikes on civilian and military targets in Ukraine, suffered critical injuries, including brain trauma, during the explosion.

The HUR attributed Nagaiiko’s unit to a missile attack on a civilian gathering in Hroza, Kupiansk district, in October 2023. The attack claimed the lives of 59 civilians, including a child.
