Russian “Double Tap” Attack on Sumy Hospital Kills at Least 7

On the morning of September 28, Russian forces launched two attacks on a medical facility in Sumy using Shahed drones. According to local authorities, eight people have been killed, including a police officer.

According to Sumy Regional Military Administration, Air Force of Ukraine, and Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko, the first strike resulted in one fatality and caused significant damage to several floors of the hospital, leading to an immediate evacuation of patients and staff. Emergency responders and police arrived on-site to assist, but during the evacuation, Russian forces launched a second strike.

The first strike occurred around 07:35 while 86 patients, including 15 with limited mobility, and 38 staff members were inside the hospital. The explosion caused significant damage, leading to an immediate evacuation of patients and staff. As of now, 8 people are confirmed dead, including one police officer, with another officer injured, 12 injured.

Earlier in the day, air raid alarms were announced in Sumy, Poltava, and Kharkiv regions due to the threat of Russian drones. Explosions were later reported in Sumy.

In addition to the hospital, a residential area was also hit during the second strike. The Air Force of Ukraine reported that Russian forces also dropped guided aerial bombs (KAB) on the Sumy region.
