Russian Forces Execute 9 Ukrainian POWs in Kursk Region
On October 10, Russian forces reportedly executed nine Ukrainian soldiers in the Kursk region, according to DeepState. The incident, described as a grave violation of the laws of war, involved drone operators and associated personnel near the village of Zelenyi Shlyakh.
Sources from the 1st Separate Tank Brigade revealed that the Ukrainian soldiers, operating in what they believed to be a relatively safe area, were forced into contact with Russian troops. Despite resisting, their ammunition supplies were limited, leading them to surrender.
Further details surrounding the circumstances are still being investigated.
This execution follows similar incidents, highlighting ongoing violations against Ukrainian prisoners of war. Earlier in October 2024, Russian forces reportedly executed 16 Ukrainian POWs in the Pokrovsk direction. According to the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, the prisoners were lined up after being captured and were deliberately shot, with surviving soldiers killed at close range.
Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, at least 177 Ukrainian prisoners have died in Russian captivity, according to Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense, as reported by Politico.
