Video Shows Russian Troops Allegedly Executing Captured Ukrainian Soldier

Authors

On September 6, a video appeared on Telegram showing a shocking incident involving the execution of a Ukrainian prisoner of war by Russian soldiers. In the footage, the unarmed prisoner is brutally shot after a brief conversation.

According to the state project “I Want to Live”, Russian soldiers once again executed a Ukrainian POW, recording the war crime and posting it online. The project condemned the act, highlighting how Russian soldiers not only commit atrocities but also document their own crimes, making it easier for Ukrainian intelligence to identify the perpetrators.

Following the execution, a Russian soldier can be heard claiming that their mission is to “liberate this land from Nazism,” justifying the killing as a response to requests for help from so-called peaceful citizens.

Earlier, on September 3, it was reported that Russian forces executed three unarmed Ukrainian soldiers who had surrendered on the Toretsk front. The Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine stated that the soldiers were forced to lie face down before being shot in the back. An investigation has been opened into this incident as a potential violation of the laws and customs of war.

This is not the first occurrence of such incidents. There have been multiple reports and videos showing similar acts of violence against Ukrainian prisoners of war. For example, on April 7, 2024, a video was released depicting the execution of unarmed Ukrainian fighters who had already surrendered. Earlier in February, six Ukrainian soldiers who tried to surrender were also reported to have been shot. Additionally, in another case near Bakhmut, nine Ukrainian soldiers were executed.

The Prosecutor General’s Office has documented at least 54 cases of Ukrainian soldiers being killed after surrendering as of April 2024, with the number of such incidents likely increasing.
