On November 26, 2024, a Russian missile strike in Sumy led to the deaths of two individuals, with one more possibly trapped under the debris. This was reported by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in his evening address.

Rescue operations are still underway at the scene of the attack on a service station. “Unfortunately, two people have died. My condolences to their families and loved ones. It is likely that one more person is under the rubble. The strike also damaged a nearby building and a kindergarten,” said Zelenskyy.

The president confirmed that the strike was likely carried out using a multiple rocket launcher system, with reports indicating the use of phosphorus munitions. Several fires broke out in Sumy as a result of the attack.

Zelenskyy emphasized that the only way to protect against such strikes is by destroying Russian weapons and launchers on the territory of the aggressor country. “That is why the ability to strike Russian territory is so crucial for us. It is the only thing that can limit Russian terror and their capacity to continue the war. I am grateful to all our partners who understand this and explain it to others,” he stated.

Earlier, the Sumy City Council reported that the shelling also caused significant damage to a parking lot, where several vehicles were destroyed, as well as windows in nearby residential buildings.
