On Monday, August 26, Russia launched a massive aerial attack on Ukraine. During this attack, three of the four power units at the Rivne Nuclear Power Plant and one power unit at the South Ukraine Nuclear Power Plant were temporarily disconnected from the grid.

This information was reported by the Permanent Mission of Ukraine to International Organizations in Vienna.

According to the official note from the Ukrainian Mission, initially, units 1, 3, and 4 at the Rivne Nuclear Power Plant were disconnected at 08:58.

Unit 3 at the South Ukraine Nuclear Power Plant was also disconnected at 17:05 due to fluctuations in Ukraine's power system caused by the Russian attack.

At 09:05 Eastern European Time, the power units at the South Ukraine Nuclear Power Plant reduced their output to a total level of 1,800 megawatts.

The Permanent Mission of Ukraine demands that the IAEA immediately inform all members of the organization about this situation.

"Russia poses a nuclear threat to the world. Their strikes on the energy sector are more than just terrorism against civilians. It is a deliberate decision by Putin's regime to threaten the world with a nuclear catastrophe," stated Andrii Yermak, Head of Ukraine's Presidential Office.
