A Russian missile strike targeted railway infrastructure in Kyiv and its outskirts, damaging freight cars loaded with grain — a critical component of Ukraine’s agricultural export sector. Ukrainian authorities report no casualties but confirm significant disruption to grain transport. as was reported on June 17 the head of Ukrainian Railways, Ukrzaliznytsia.

Yevhen Liashchenko, head of Ukrainian Railways, stated that several grain-filled railcars were hit while stationed on sidings near a logistics terminal. “Thanks to the swift response of railway emergency crews, train traffic was partially restored within hours.

The strike underscores Moscow’s ongoing campaign against Ukraine’s agricultural supply chains, which are vital to global grain markets. Ukraine remains one of the world’s top exporters of wheat, corn, and barley. Targeting grain transport infrastructure directly threatens both Ukraine’s economy and global food security.

Ukrzaliznytsia confirmed that safety measures were promptly implemented, minimizing further damage. While technical teams continue repairs, Liashchenko emphasized that restoring the full capacity of grain transport remains a priority.

Ukraine’s State Emergency Service reported no fatalities or injuries. The attack forms part of a broader Russian strategy aimed at systematically degrading Ukraine’s export logistics by striking key infrastructure such as ports, storage facilities, and rail corridors.

Meanwhile, in related developments, Russia continues to claim its attacks target military objectives. However, Moscow’s strikes in recent days have killed at least 16 civilians and injured 130 across Ukraine, with many of the targets being purely civilian infrastructure:
