A Russian Su-24MR reconnaissance supersonic aircraft violated Polish airspace on February 11, according to Poland’s Operational Command.

The bomber, which took off from the Kaliningrad region, violated Polish airspace at 14:09, penetrating 6.5 kilometers into Polish territory and remaining there for 1 minute and 12 seconds.

“The Polish services on duty supervising the airspace were in contact with the Russian side, which confirmed the violation of Polish airspace and reported that it occurred due to a failure of the Su-24MR aircraft’s navigation system,” Poland’s Operational Command wrote on X.

Militarnyi noted that the violation of Polish airspace may have been a deliberate act, potentially intended for radar reconnaissance.

“For example, the aircraft may have been carrying an SRS-14 ‘Tangazh’ electronic intelligence pod, designed to detect and locate radar emission sources, ‘ the news outlet wrote.

On December 19, 2024, Poland stated its readiness to intercept Russian missiles over its territory under specific conditions.
