“The occupiers, threatening them with firearms, forced one of the soldiers to partially undress and then shot both unarmed defenders. After seeing that the prisoners of war had been killed, they also removed the clothing from the second defender, who had already been executed,” investigators said.

The Prosecutor General’s Office stressed that the intentional killing of prisoners of war is a serious violation of the Geneva Conventions and constitutes a grave international crime.

A pretrial investigation has been opened under the procedural supervision of the Donetsk Regional Prosecutor’s Office into a war crime resulting in death, under Part 2 of Article 438 of Ukraine’s Criminal Code.

Law enforcement authorities are carrying out urgent investigative actions to establish the full circumstances of the incident and identify those responsible, according to the Prosecutor General’s Office.

Earlier, according to the Ukrainian OSINT project DeepState, Russian troops killed three unarmed Ukrainian servicemen in the Zaporizhzhia region, south of Huliaipole.

The incident occurred on December 20 and represents another recorded case of Ukrainian prisoners of war being executed by Russian forces.
