According to reports from Russian officials and media sources, Sergei Yefremov, the vice governor of Russia’s Primorsky region and the commander of the ‘Tiger’ unit, was killed in the Kursk region. His vehicle reportedly struck a mine while returning from a combat mission.

The news was confirmed by Primorsky region Governor Oleg Kozhemyako, who stated that Yefremov died while conducting reconnaissance. Russian Telegram channels reported that another Russian officer was also killed in the incident.

Yefremov had been serving as vice governor of Primorsky region since March 2024. Prior to that, he commanded the ‘Tiger’ unit, which was formed in 2022 as part of the 155th Separate Guards Marine Brigade of the Russian Pacific Fleet. Initially composed of volunteers, the unit was later deployed to Ukraine.

In August 2024, Yefremov and his unit were stationed in the Kursk region. Following the advancement of Ukrainian defense forces in the area, he reportedly returned to combat operations.
