At MSPO 2025, Saab, Swedish aerospace and defense company, showcased the Ground-Launched Small Diameter Bomb (GLSDB), developed with Boeing to adapt the GBU-39 Small Diameter Bomb for ground launch using an M26 rocket booster, Army Recognition Group reported on September 2.

The system can strike targets up to 150 kilometers away with one-meter precision, engage from multiple directions, and fire simultaneous rounds. Variants include laser-guided and low-collateral-damage models.

The GLSDB combines a 93-kilogram multipurpose warhead with GPS-aided inertial navigation, wings for gliding, and programmable fuzes for different target types. Development trials demonstrated 360-degree attack profiles and the ability to hit moving and concealed targets.

Ukraine received GLSDBs from the US in 2024, using them against Russian positions. Early operations were affected by Russian electronic warfare, but upgraded versions delivered in 2025 reportedly maintain accuracy and reach Mach 5 during boost, according to Army Recognition Group.

Saab has partnered with Anduril to produce up to 6,000 new rocket motors annually from 2026, replacing legacy M26 stockpiles.

The GLSDB can be fired from MLRS, HIMARS, South Korea’s Chunmoo, or containerized launchers, extending artillery range from roughly 85 kilometers to 150 kilometers and enabling coordinated salvos.

Cost-effective and flexible, the GLSDB complements heavier long-range missiles, providing a precision strike option without the expense of ATACMS or Storm Shadow.

Previously, it was reported that the United States was set to resume shipments of Ground-Launched Small Diameter Bombs (GLSDB) to Ukraine after making improvements to counter Russian electronic jamming.
